Abstract
150 years after the death of Júlio Dinis (1839‑1871), this article aims to pay homage to the Porto author. Vast, multifaceted, and objectively optimistic, the Dinisian work reflects the personality of the author and conveys an edifying message consisting of a progressive version of Portuguese society. This highlights the love consolidated in marriage as a factor that promotes individual and collective development. Thanks to this humanist dimension, Júlio Dinis' novels have achieved remarkable success that arouses the interest and taste of the readership, who identify with the characters and actions narrated.
