Abstract
The subtitle of the novel Com armas sonolentas: um romance de formação appears as an invitation for the reader to enter in Carola Saavedra's narrative with a specific key to its interpretation. With the spectrum of bildungsroman in mind, the reader seeks a coming-of-age story along the traditional lines, but finds the narrative of three protagonists at different stages of their lives; a deviation from the literary tradition attributed to the bildungsroman novel in which a young protagonist exposes his maturing process towards adulthood. The breach of expectation is thus conscious. It is the objective of this essay to read Com armas sonolentas from two interdependent analyzes: the feminine formation of the protagonists of the text and the narration of a story that seeks to reconstruct the otherness in the nation's identity. Writing becomes, therefore, a resource for reparation of trauma both at individual and national levels.
